This guide is for **department managers** who are responsible for organizing their team's credentials in Passwork. Before starting, complete the [User onboarding](../user-onboarding/intro.mdx) to ensure your account is activated, tools are installed, and 2FA is enabled.

## Manager responsibilities

As a department manager, you:

- Create and maintain the vault and folder structure for your department
- Invite team members and assign appropriate access levels
- Share credentials with colleagues and external contractors when needed
- Review the access history and rotate credentials when employees leave

## Onboarding checklist

| Step | Action | Page |
|------|--------|-----------|
| 1 | Create a vault for your department and organize folders | [Vault structure](./vault-structure.mdx) |
| 2 | Invite new team members using invite links with pre-assigned access | [Invite users](./invite-users.mdx) |
| 3 | Configure access levels for individual users or groups | [Access management](./access-management.mdx) |
| 4 | Share credentials with colleagues or contractors | [Password sharing](./password-sharing.mdx) |
| 5 | Know how to audit access and handle employee departures | [Audit and offboarding](./audit-and-offboarding.mdx) |

## Prerequisites

Before proceeding, confirm the following with your Passwork administrator:

- Your user account has been assigned the **Manager**-level role with appropriate permissions
- You know which users from your team already have Passwork accounts
- You have received the naming convention guidelines for vaults and folders, if your organization has them

If you do not have vault creation permissions, ask your administrator to create the department vault and assign you as its owner.
